About Adelaide Vocal Union

Adelaide Vocal Union

Adelaide Vocal Union was founded in 2015 as a male four part harmony chorus to learn and perform barbershop and other genres of acapella singing. We proudly represent the Central Region (SA/NT) within Barbershop Harmony Australia (BHA). We are always keen to find new members who love to sing, can do so in tune and can hold a part. The ability to read sheet music is an advantage but not essential, as audio learning tracks are provided.

Adelaide Vocal Union was founded by a fantastic group of singers with ages ranging from 17 to 70 and made our contest debut in September 2015. At this event, we were awarded the title of 'Small Chorus Champions' and placed 5th overall. This was achieved after only 5 months of singing tog
ether! Cam DuRieu is currently our Musical Director.

In the 2017 National BHA Convention in Sydney we won silver in the Open Chorus category with a score of 78.5%. In 2018 we convened the National BHA Convention in Adelaide and won the Best Small Chorus category, which we repeated in 2019 in Hobart. Rebuilding after the disruption of the Covid pandemic, we scored well again in 2022 in Hobart. Our ethos is to compete from time to time in order to improve our skills for performing.

Adelaide Vocal Union prides itself on being an exciting, open-age chorus. Learning tracks are provided so we minimise the time required in rehearsals just learning notes. After each rehearsal many of us adjourn to a local pub with the inherent risk of spontaneous singing.
